MY MOTHER WAS A DRUG ADDICT

September 3, 2018

I remember the day clearly, as a group of us 'rebels' got suspended from school for fighting. The principal had to call each parent to confirm that they were sending the child home. One by one the principal got the o.k. to suspend the child on the spot, until it was my turn... When the principal called my mothers job, he was told she no longer worked there, and when he tried my home number, it was disconnected. Surprised, but not totally shocked, the principal sent me home anyway, which was probably against the rules. Believe me, I was not arguing about going home for a week or so. So I left school with the suspension letter in my hand, thinking I was going to get an ear-lashing when I got home.

To my surprise, my mother was actually home, and was just as curious to see me as I was to see her. We were both in for an unexpected revelation of what was about to be told. First, I had to tell her that I was suspended for breaking someones nose, and show her the suspension letter. However, my bad news could not compare to the bombshell that my mother was about to drop on me. "I got fired from my job for stealing, and they are thinking about pressing charges against me". STEALING? How could my mother get caught for stealing from a job that she seemed happy at? After all, she worked for her best friend, how could this happen? She soon filled me in as to the Mama I didn't know.

"I have been on drugs for some time", she revealed painfully, with tears running nonstop. "I stole from my job to by drugs, and our phone is off because we have no money", she continued. "It hurts me to tell you, but it has caught up with me". As difficult as it was for her to reveal her darkside, it looked like it was weight off of her shoulder.
