DESMOND "RIVAH" SMITH 'S BROTHER WAS SENSELESSLY MURDERED....
I’ve been impacted by violence in many ways. I am sick of what’s happening to our young black males who have been falling victim to the lifestyle of this gang life. But what’s even more sickening is that the innocent have to suffer for those few who decide to kill for a name or revenge. I don’t have that trust in people the way I used to.
I find myself thinking about what I would have done if I was in the same situation my brother was in; trying to imagine that was traumatizing enough. I was physically sick for weeks after the murder. I wasn’t eating or sleeping properly and started to lose weight fast. It was taking a toll on me, not only on me physically but on all aspects of my life and interactions with others. It got to the point that people noticed and supported me and my family through this.
I want to thank all those who gave me advice and support because I was not myself and without that support I would not have come back to my senses. It was 2:30 p.m. and, out of the blue, I found myself thinking about a conversation I had with my brother Colford. We had met the night before waiting for our older brother to join us to celebrate his birthday. We talked about the future and our relationships. So I wanted to call him to offer him some advice. Soon after being lost in my thoughts, some guys started talking about someone who was just shot in Somerset.
