CALVIN BURGESS: I GOT CAUGHT

September 2, 2018

It started with me sitting on the wall, than juggling (selling) drugs. The money was good, and It was my second job. I remember going to my 8-5 job, than cleaning up to go run the streets. I got a thrill from selling drugs and making money, with no deductions,. I remember a time when we were juggling and the police came to make a raid. I snatched up the drugs and ran for my life. I hid until someone came looking for me (there were no cellphones back than!!) Once I got back with my mates, they were telling me how I took off like I was FLASH GORDON, Hey I was the CHUBBY guy!! From then and my name was recognized in that area.

From there I “graduated” to importing drugs, which lead to time in jail; changing my life FOREVER!! For many years I sold and imported drugs including cocaine. I loved to smoke marijuana and drink alcohol. I also raced bikes up and down the roads of Bermuda. It’s only by the GRACE of God I am still here. When it came to riding bikes I gave a lot of money to our government by frequently being in Magistrates Court, paying fines and spending many stints off the road.

With regards to the importation and selling of drugs, back in 1995 I was charged in Houston Texas for trafficking 35 pounds of marijuana and was given 4 years probation, as I was in Atlanta in school. However, in 1996 my son got sick and I returned to Bermuda to be with him. Once he was better I attempted to return to school, but I was not allowed entry into the US. In August 2000 I received my waiver to return to the US for a friend’s wedding in Atlanta. It was then I was arrested and had to serve 2 years imprisonment due to my violation of my probation.
